Can you tell us about your research, work and expertise in Southeast Asia?

I am currently undertaking scoping research for a comprehensive study in ASEAN of labour migration and associated financial arrangements, involving collaborators in all ASEAN countries. Labour migration is concentrated in the Malay and Mekong corridors and we have parallel projects on the lived experiences of migrant workers in Malaysia from Bangladesh, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Another project is to produce a research-informed textbook for the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development) to support their expansion in the region. This book similarly involves contributors throughout the region, both academics and practitioners. I am also responsible for developing research-led collaboration throughout the region and building articulation arrangements.

Any anecdote you would like to share?

I am married to a Filipina, and I held Executive Dean positions in two universities in Malaysia (Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur) from 2015 to 2019.
