Professor Jon Lovett

Can you tell us about your research, work and expertise in Southeast Asia?

My research work is primarily in Indonesia in collaboration with colleagues in the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and Resilience Development Institute in Bandung. Recent projects include renewable energy funded by the the UK EPSRC with a case study on Sumba Island; and development of massive open online courses funded by the Indonesian Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology. My PhD students from Indonesia have studied sustainable oil palm governance; natural gas pricing; disaster management; community-based renewable energy governance; and the transition to electric vehicles. I visit Indonesia regularly and was a visiting professor at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in 2017.
